About 1

Ana Teles is an artist and researcher working across painting, drawing, photography, and performance. Her practice engages with contemporary debates around appropriation, artistic identity, and value in contemporary art. She is particularly interested in authenticity, the role of gesture in painting, and the dynamics of interaction among artists.

Her practice-based PhD investigated the process of copying the work of other artists, in collaboration with them, to understand how the participation of the maker of the original work contributed to making of the copy, not just with respect to the aesthetic qualities of the painting but also its ontological qualities, that is, its standing and reception within the art world.
